MEET TENEIA
Teneia is an award-winning singer-songwriter, producer and composer from Jackson, MS. She's a US State Dept. cultural ambassador and international touring artist.
Her work has been featured on HBO, Netflix and many independent films.
She currently lives in New Orleans and is working on her 8th studio album.

THE ALBUM
"Dark Utopia" is a 18-song dazzling, uplifting, and nebulous, Black rock opera album produced by Teneia Sanders. This album features international and cross cultural collaborations with a beautiful merge of melodies.
The eclectic multi-genre album covers many social issues; sexism, racial inequality, toxic masculinity, Black Lives Matter, feminism and other important topics through the lens of dynamic character development. Using musical storytelling throughout many genres (folk, soul, hip-hop, opera, rock, gospel, ragtime, pop, Afrofusion and klezmer).
The project's primary purpose is to hire, elevate and uplift Black voices through many genres and sounds. Along with addressing social issues to hold deeper conversations, through music and visual art.
MY WHY
After so much social unrest and imbalance in the world, I realized that I wanted to create a project that used music to open up the dialogue about racism, sexism, abuse and so many other tough things that I have faced as a Black LBGTQ+ artist. By creating a conceptual album, I can showcase different vocal viewpoints to explore all of these social themes in song and visual format.
